How much does wagering really cost?

The arithmetic shows why a big headline can be a bad deal. These are worked examples, not figures from any site.

Every pound staked is exposed to the house edge. The higher the wagering, the more likely it is that the bonus, and often your deposit, runs out before you reach a withdrawal.

What about "no deposit" bonuses?

A no deposit bonus gives you a small amount of bonus money or free spins without a deposit. The catch is almost always in the terms: high wagering, a low maximum cashout, a short expiry, and often a requirement to deposit before any withdrawal. For someone who has self-excluded, the bigger risk is simpler. A "free" start is designed to get you playing again.

Which bonus terms decide the outcome?

• Wagering requirement: how many times, and on what amount.
